Verse 1 Alone in the garden, where dark shadows crept,
He longed for the comfort of others who slept;
Without a companion the vigil He kept,—
In the garden He suffered alone.

Verse 2 Alone in the garden, He knelt long ago,
'Twas there that He tasted the dark cup of woe;
The depth of His sorrow no mortal can know,—
In the garden He suffered alone.

Verse 3 Alone in the garden, He suffered for me,
That I from my burden of guilt might be free;
Tho' I was a sinner, yet sinless was He;—

Verse 4 Alone in the garden, He pleaded for me,
In anguish of spirit the world could not see;
Oh, love of the Savior beyond all degree!
