Jesus the Hope of the World

Verse 1 Who is this coming with garments red,
Wounded His hands and His feet and head?
He that was bruised in our guilty stead,
Jesus, the Hope of the world.

Verse 2 Like some lone mountain, majestic, grand,
Towering high above sea and land,
See “the Desire of all nations” stand!
Jesus, the Hope of the world.

Verse 3 Millions are groping in hopeless night,
Vainly they’re seeking for peace and light,
There is but One who can give them sight,
Jesus, the Hope of the world.

Verse 4 Many are building, at men’s command,
Laying foundations on treach’rous sand,
Only one Rock will the storms withstand,
Jesus, the Hope of the world.

Verse 5 Hope of mankind in the ages past,
Hope of today with its needs more vast,
He will all systems and creeds outlast,
Jesus, the Hope of the world.

Refrain Hearts that are weary and long for rest,
Haunted by fears and by guilt oppressed,
Here is the balm for each troubled breast,
Jesus, the Hope of the world.
