My Father, My Dear Father

Verse 1 Upon the walls of memory
One face, one form I ever see;
Above all men he seems to me,
My father, my dear father.

Verse 2 I loved to stand by father’s knee,
And hear him read God’s Word to me;
Most precious will they ever be,
Those pages read by father.

Verse 3 But better far than printed page,
Or message from seer or sage,
Is this most priceless heritage,
The life of my dear father.

Verse 4 What tho’ the world knew not his worth,
Nor halls of fame record his birth,
It cannot perish from the earth,
The good work done by father.

Verse 5 His precepts I will still obey,
And as he followed Christ each day,
I’ll follow in the same old way,
Until I join my father.

Refrain O how it makes my heart rejoice
When I recall that loving voice;
Yes, sweet to me will ever be
The mem’ry of my father.
